Crossings for Android

The Tartu Crossing Survey as a phone app: GPS, screen kept on while you ride, and saving exports to your files.

Download the app (APK)
TartuCrossings.apk · version 1.2 · 15 kB · Android 8 or newer

You're already using the app. Updates to the survey arrive by themselves, so there's nothing to download.

Installing it

  1. Tap Download above. Your browser may warn that the file can be harmful. That's shown for every app not from the Play Store; tap Download anyway.
  2. Open the downloaded file. Tap the download notification, or find TartuCrossings.apk in the Files app under Downloads.
  3. Allow installing from this source. The first time, Android asks to allow apps from your browser or Files. Tap Settings, switch it on, then go back.
  4. Tap Install. If Play Protect says it doesn't recognise the app, tap More details → Install anyway.
  5. Open Crossings and allow location (choose "While using the app"), so it can show where you are and start rides from there.

Good to know

It saved as a .zip? Delete that file and download again from this page. If it still happens, rename the file so it ends in .apk instead of .zip, then open it.

The app has its own storage, separate from your browser. If you already logged crossings in the browser, open Results → Export JSON there, then Results → Import JSON in the app.

Most updates show up by themselves, because the app loads the survey from this site. Version 1.2 keeps turn and crossing alerts (vibration and voice) and your path going with the screen off. If you installed an older version, download and install this over it. Your logs stay.
